Thomas reflects on various technologies that have been introduced over the past few years. It is noticeable to him, that Generations X and Y (ages range from 20-47) are among the first adopters.
When applying for a job, his daughter will stop the application process if it is job is too cumbersome and time consuming. This is a feeling that she shares with most of her peers and friends. LinkedIn has just announced that they have an application, “Apply with LinkedIn” that allows candidates to apply for a job in 1 click. This is geared for Generations X, Y and soon to be Generation Z as they enter the workforce.
However, amongst the excitement, there are doubters that say, “This won’t work, resumes will never be replaced, etc..”. Those are short sighted views and do not take younger generations into consideration.
Generation Y is accustomed to everything being instant (text messaging, Facebook updates). For most, if any task (even applying for a job) takes too long-they lose interest LinkedIn has listened and responded, which is commendable.
