More companies are adopting a flexible vacation policy-meaning the employee chooses when they want to take vacation and the employer eliminates an allotted number of vacation days. When Netflix adopted this policy, employees did not take advantage of the flexibility. In fact, it contributed towards a healthier work environment. Other companies that offer flexible vacation day policies include: HubSpot, Morningstar, Motley Fool and BlueWolf.
There are numerous reasons why employees do not abuse this policy, but one of them is when companies carefully screen job candidate in the beginning for their traits and behaviors. If you’re going to abuse the policy, you’re not going to stay long in that organization anyway, says Mark Frame, Associate Professor of Psychology at Middle Tennessee State University.
