At Best Places to Work, Trust, Pride and Camaraderie Overshadow Pay

The Great Place to Work Institute examined factors for a standout workplace and released it’s list of global companies and keeping employees “happy”. Among the winners were NetApp, Microsoft, Fedex and, of course, Google.  According to Pete Foley with Mercer Consulting confirms that if pay if way out of line, it is de-motivating. But pay has not been a big driver of employee motivation.

A new Mercer global analysis found that non-financial factors play a more prominent role in influencing employee motivation and engagement. Most workers say that:

  • Being treated with respect is most important
  • Followed by work/life balance
  • Type of work being performed
  • Quality of co-workers
  • Quality of leadership
