In the Oscar winning movie, The King’s Speech reinforced numerous, vital leadership lessons for any individual or organization to embrace and promote. Among them, 4 of the most common arguments against seeking help and counsel from others include:
- Objection: “I am the leader, so I should know what to do and not seek out help”
Response: You cannot know everything-that’s why you work with other leaders. Asking for help shows positive signs of strong leadership and allows them to be part of the process, which is an employee engagement driver.
- Objection:“I do not want to be seen as vulnerable”
Response: Ask questions, and learn more about people and their intentions. By trusting others and being able to form strong relationships, the less vulnerable you should feel.
- Objection:“I am uncertain of who I can trust”
Response: Start small and trust a few others around you.
- Objection: “I want to be a Strong Leader but That Has Nothing To Do with My Personal Life”
Response: Look to this movie for lessons-you will be successful when you address all areas of your life: work and personal.
