A Celebratory Culture Boosts Employee Engagement
Have you ever been sitting in a meeting after a successful deliverable and have the main focus be on what went wrong or how it can change/improve for the next time? I bet thissounds familiar to a lot of you. And it’s not really surprising because it’s human nature to achieve. Therefore, we tend to always be looking to what’s next. This can leave little time to reflect on your accomplishments and celebrate, especially with how quickly things move these days. However, it’s really important to make time to celebrate. Companies with healthy cultures and strong employee engagement have included celebrating into their culture.
Here are a few ways to help build a culture of celebration:
- Schedule it!
We get busy very quickly; put a reminder in your calendar and stick to it. Don’t let it be something that falls off the calendar just because it has to be rescheduled a few times. - Communicate (you can’t be surprised this a bullet point, right?)
When there are wins and achievements, communicate them to your team. We tend to over communicate the negative things, and under communicate the positive, which certainly doesn’t help build a culture of celebration. - Hire Positive People
When you build a culture, a lot of it stems from the people you hire. We suggest that you hire people with the right behaviors and traits for your culture using the BEST profile. Are you hiring positive people? - Leverage Positive Thinkers
Are there people on your team who are generally optimistic and great at celebrating? Get creative with these employees; have them form a celebration committee to organize the meetings in fun ways, i.e. cookouts, bowling, etc.
Understanding the importance of positive thinking and celebration is a trait of organizations that have a healthy culture. Healthy cultures lead to higher employee engagement and more fun!
How have you celebrated recently?
