60 Minutes Interview with Co-Founder of Facebook & Staggering Social Media Statistics

By EEngagement

On Sunday, 12/5, 60 minutes interviewed Mark Zuckerberg, Co-Founder of Facebook.  Interviewer Lesley Stahl primarily covered the company’s culture, the site’s growth and aspirations, privacy concerns, new features of FaceBook’s profile page and the hit movie, The Social Network.  Whether you respect Zuckerman or not, there are staggering statistics that reinforce the importance that social media plays in today’s businesses.

  • 100 million photos are uploaded everyday on Facebook
  • Over 200 million people are accessing Facebook through mobile devices
  • FaceBook’s most recent product is messages that combines email, text, IM into 1, which they call the “ultimate switchboard”
  • This past year, people spent more time on Facebook than Google
  • 200  Facebook employees were previously with Google (10% of FaceBook employees), including the creator of Google maps
  • Facebook is valued between $35 and $50 billion dollars

The message: If your organization is not leveraging social media, you will be at a significant disadvantage.
